Top Ten Authors I'd Love To Have At My Thanksgiving Feast

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

This week's Top Ten from The Broke and the Bookish asks for the Top Ten Authors you'd love to have at my Thanksgiving feast. I don’t know if we’re allowed to include dead authors in this, so I’ll do half and half. I decided to pick authors that not only have books I love, but that I think would be hilarious or fascinating conversationalists.

Authors that are still living:
1) Neil Gaiman

2) Nick Hornby

3) John Green

4) David Sedaris

5) Margaret Atwood

Authors that have died:
6) Douglas Adams

7) Jane Austen

8) Roald Dahl

9) Oscar Wilde

10) Dorothy Parker

Holy cow! A dinner party with David Sedaris, Douglas Adams, and Dorothy Parker! You will be breathlessly laughing the ENTIRE time. Hope you don't plan on actually keeping any of the food in your month. Awesomeness!

Great list! Especially Sedaris. To that list I would add Tana French and Sarah Waters. Maybe then I could get around to offering to have their children. Oh, and Stephen King. He would make things interesting.

Woohoo! I'm glad someone else included Oscar Wilde!! Eight of my authors are dead ones. I debated adding Neil Gaiman but ended up going against it. He would definitely be the 11th guest at my party though!

Wilde and Austenare both attending my dinner party, however, they have agred to stop past ours if you'll send Mr Gaiman over to mine for post dinner drinks in their place. ;)
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday post. :)

I think the authors you propose to invite have an inimitable sense of decorum and would allow you some bites in between bon mots.

Fantastic choices! I can definitely get behind Atwood and Dahl.

Nymeth - I started with a much more serious list, then I thought about who I would actually want to talk with all night.

JReiss - I have a feeling there would be a lot of laughing and possibly some wine shooting out of my nose.

Sandy - French's series is up next on my TBR. I bought The Likeness last night. I would love to talk to Waters too. I always loved King's columns in Entertainment Weekly. He has the best taste in audiobooks!

Teacher - Worth it!

Amanda - I can just imagine Wilde making quips under his breath to whoever is enxt to him.

diaryofadomesticgoddess - I'll gladly lend you Gaiman if you lend me Pratchett from your list!

Jeanne - I think Jane would keep them all in order.

Brenna - I have always wanted to talk to Dahl! I wish he was still alive.

I put Dahl on my list, too. Wish I'd had Dorothy Parker and Oscar Wilde, but it did not occur to me.
